Connection and Networks

Methods used to rehabilitate to normalcy are as follows:

  • Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy - for children with physical and mental disabilites.
  • Special Education - For children with learning disabilities.
  • Play Therapy - Using i-Pley Toy Library : For traumatised, abused children, and slow learners.

There are 160 children registered at the centre. Each therapy session will be attended by around 15-20 children per day. The various specialised therapists review and plan the rehabilitation for these children.

We are using the expertise of the Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist from hospitals and Special Educators from Mental Health Society Penang, to rehabilitate the children with the various disabilities.

Kamakshi Child Rehabilitation Centre also serves as a community referral centre for Kulim Hospital, Seberang Jaya Hospital and Penang Hospital for continued daycare therapy. The centre also has been selected for placement of students for continued training by AIMST University, Masterskill and Mahsa University Colleges.

Majority of the children have improved physically and mentally with the on going activities in the centre. With consistent follow up visits and reassessment and implementation of developmental stimulation activities there will be further progress for these children.

The guidelines from Ministry of Health serves as a measurement for projects impact on the participants. The first comers will go through the assessment, upon which a diagnosis is made. This would be followed by establishing a goal and a care plan, to be implemented later on. An evaluation and reassessment is done upon implementing the project. At this stage any necessary change or shortcomings are realised and the implementation would be adjusted accordingly. As the child progresses in the respective developmental area, the assistance would be reduced gradually.

Disability Not A Hindrance For Success

Disability is not an obstacle for success. The great scientist, Stephen Hawking a very big example for that. Disability is just a mind disease and nothing. Don't think your disability as a weakness. Remove from your mind that you are a disabled. Always be positive. If you think positively and avoid your disability from mind, then you can do everything that a normal human being does. There are many examples around us which proves the sentence true: Disability is not an obstacle for success. So, remove from your mind that disability which is also a word in our dictionary of life. Disability is not Instability.
